About The Beginning: With the creation of the Blinn Team program at Texas A&M, cadets in the corp were often living a corp lifestlye, but with the requirements that the Blinn Team demanded. This caused some friction in their lifestlyes, as well as difficulty in the overall function of the Corps. In order to help relieve this issue, Squadron 23 was reestablish as a "Blinn Team outfit". The emphasis of the outfit, and what most notably set it apart, was the understanding and coordination of the upperclassmen in the outfit to work around and help incomming Blinn Team freshmen with the challenges of facing a "fish year" while completing the goals outlined in the Blinn Team program. For this purpose, Squadron 23 has been successful. It has for the first time ever, taken a class of freshmen and sculpted them into successful students and cadets. Some of these cadets have already received acceptance into Texas A&M fully before completing their requirements for Blinn Team acceptance. The History: Originally, Squadron 23 was one of the first all “fish” outfits when freshmen were still trained at the A&M riverside campus. Although not nicknamed, their symbol was a Panther clutching a scroll proclaiming “no control.” Eventually 23 was phased out and later re-formed as a “day-duck” outfit on the actual Texas A&M campus. A day-duck is a cadet who has prior military service, is married, plays a varsity sport, or lives off-campus with their family in the local area. The newly formed Sq-23 bore the emblem of a duck wearing a flight cap and aviator-like attire. In the spring of 2006, General Van Alstyne brought forth the idea of forming a new outfit in the 2nd Wing due the large influx of students in the Blinn TEAM program. Thus, Squadron 23 was re-formed, under the name “Nighthawk 23,” and filled with freshmen taking classes at both Blinn and Texas A&M. At the end of the 2006-2007 school year, Squardon 23 transferred from 2nd to 1st wing, and had produced the first class of cadets in the same outfit who were also all enrolled in the Blinn Team program. 2007 began with a new class of freshman Blinn TEAM cadets. Spring '08 marked a change from 1st Wing to the Task Force major unit and, at final review 2008, 19 freshman made the transition to sophomores in Squadron 23.
